I'm a T-5 paraplegic who was injured by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. Before the injury I was an avid RV and tent camper but now things are a little different.
I was lucky to have a nice 5th wheel RV that that was able to be modified to accommodate my chair and I. The modifications are ongoing because as far as I know I have the only fiver setup for a wheelchair. I still need help working around it but I’m almost to the point where I can set it up by myself and that’s the goal.
The reason I’m building this site is because I’ve tried to stay at some parks and even called ahead and they say yes the place is wheelchair accessible but when I get there you need to climb some stairs to get there. I’m only going to add places that we as wheelchair bound people have stayed at so we know what to expect.
Please help me add to this site and any advice you have about the great outdoors to help us get back out there because there is so much of this Beautiful world we are missing.
Here I'm going to add Tips and tricks that have made my traveling a little easier also tips that people have submitted.
The best places I've found to fuel up at are the Flying J truck stops. There stations have always been consistent in there layout they all have two handicapped stalls one in the main area and another in the professional drivers area and plenty of parking for cars and RVs there is always plenty of staff on hand and phones by the pumps to help you fuel up. To date I've never had a bad experience using there stations.
